Good Bye to Flash Could Mean Hello to New eLearning for Your Organization

Learners use mobile technology

Time is rapidly closing on flash based websites because the development environment is no longer compatible with today’s technology. Flash does not translate to mobile devices and as technology continues to evolve, responsive design becomes more and more important for all websites; especially learning systems.

Smart phones are used by most of the population: 81% of adults 18-49 and 58% of adults 50-64, to be specific. None of these devices are compatible with a Flash based website. As you may or may not know, Adobe will discontinue support for flash in 2020. No matter how excellent your content or how exciting your website is, none of these smart phone users can access your learning on their mobile device. And that matters because according to Global Workplace Analytics, today’s workforce is mobile for 50-60% of their day.Learners use mobile technology

Odds are, if your eLearning was designed in flash, you may be looking to update it for more than just technology reasons. Training is an ongoing process with an ever changing, always growing landscape of information to be shared. As you look at converting your flash based courseware into a mobile friendly environment, it may be a good time to consider updating to a more modernized approach.

There are a wide variety of options for updating your training: from incorporating microlearning modules to adding gamefication elements and responsive design or even finessing the material to allow for a blended learning approach.

With the new year approaching, many organizations are looking at new possibities for their courseware. Allen Interactions' own Lisa Stortz and Scott Colehour will be discussing ideas for converting flash courses to new learning tools in the first of a new webinar series: P.S. Problem/Solution Flash conversion, microlearning, responsive design, simple updates on Thursday November 16, 2017. Join us for an hour of discussion, questions and interesting demos.
